Ein weiteres Problem bei den Champion Modellen, ist der Sicherungsschieber für den Freilauf selbst!

Dieser Knopf war der Versuch, die Probleme beim Bootsfischen in den Griff zu bekommen! Leider war die Position des Freilaufhebels nicht richtig gewählt. Wenn man die Rute an die Bordwand stellte und das Boot fuhr, konnte es passieren das dadurch der Freilaufkopf, durch das Gewicht der Rute von selbst gedrückt wurde. Mit der Folge man hatte unverschuldet eine hübsche Perücke!

Man entschied den Freilauf mit einem einfachen Gleitschieber zu sichern, wenn es nötig war. Aber leider erzeugte dieser Hebel, ein neues Problem und zwar wenn er mit der Zeit, zu leicht ging! Ein paar Jahre später, wurde dann der Drücker des Freilaufes um ca.30 Grad versetzt, damit war dann das ursprüngliche Problem beseitigt!

Aber jetzt zu den Problemen mit dem Gleitschieber!

Another problem with the Champion models is the safety slider for the free spool itself!

This button was an attempt to address the problems encountered when fishing from a boat! Unfortunately, the position of the free spool lever wasn’t ideal. If you placed the rod against the side of the boat and it was moving, the weight of the rod could cause the free spool head to be accidentally engaged. The result? An unintentional tangle!

The decision was made to secure the free spool with a simple sliding slider when needed. But unfortunately, this lever created a new problem: over time, it became too easy to operate! A few years later, the free spool button was rotated by about 30 degrees, thus eliminating the original problem!

But now, let’s get to the problems with the sliding slider!

Oben links seht ihr den Gleitschieber, rot markiert, der als Sicherung für den Freilauf fungieren soll!

Funktion: Der Schieber ist links, Freilauf kann gedrückt werden. Der Schieber ist rechts, der Freilauf ist gesichert und kann nicht gedrückt werden! Das ist die Theorie, so war es gedacht!

Dieser Schieber hat aber leider keine Rastung, das heist wenn die Federspannung im Laufe der Jahre nachlässt, kann er sich z.B. durch wiederholte Wurfbewegungen, etwas verschieben! So das man es kaum sieht! Je nachdem wie weit das dann ist, kann folgendes passieren!

Der Kopf ist minimal nach rechts gewandert, man drückt den Freilauf und wirft, man dreht die Kurbel und der Freilauf springt nicht mehr von selber raus! Genervt beginnt man mit der Fehlersuche, einfach den Schieber wieder nach links schieben dann funktioniert es wieder! Damit das nicht ständig passiert schaut auf das nächste Foto !

Function: The lever is on the left, the free spool can be engaged. The lever is on the right, the free spool is locked and cannot be engaged! That’s the theory, that’s how it was intended!

Unfortunately, this lever doesn’t have a detent, which means that if the spring tension weakens over the years, it can shift slightly, for example, through repeated casting movements! So much so that it’s barely noticeable! Depending on how far it shifts, the following can happen!

The head has moved slightly to the right, you engage the free spool and cast, you turn the handle, and the free spool no longer disengages automatically! Frustrated, you start troubleshooting, simply sliding the lever back to the left, and it works again! To prevent this from happening constantly, take a look at the next photo!

Rolle soweit zerlegen, das ihr gut an den Schieber von innen ran kommt! Prüfen ob der Schieber ausreichend schwergängig ist? Sollte das nicht der Fall sein, dann die Feder abnehmen und vorsichtig nach biegen! Alles wieder montieren und Reibung prüfen, jetzt sollte es wieder für ein paar Jahre funktionieren!

Tipp : Wollt ihr Spinnfischen? Holt euch eine Champion Rolle ohne Sicherungsschieber! Oder baut den Schieber aus, ich weis sieht blöd aus, habe ich aber schon ein paarmal gesehen! Wollt ihr sie fürs Bootsfischen, holt euch die Version mit dem versetztem Freilauf Drücker aus Kunstoff!

Disassemble the reel enough so you can easily access the locking slider from the inside. Check if the slider is sufficiently stiff. If not, remove the spring and carefully bend it. Reassemble everything and check for friction; it should now work for a few more years!

Tip: Do you want to spin fish? Get a Champion reel without a locking slider! Or remove the slider altogether—I know it looks silly, but I’ve seen it done a few times! If you want it for boat fishing, get the version with the offset plastic free-spool button!

So sieht es dann aus mit entfernter Sperre , natürlich kann dann über die Öffnung, Schmutz eindringen! Manche Angler kleben dann ein Stück Panzerband auf die Öffnung, oder schmieren sie mit Silikon zu!

Besser: Man sucht die passende Rolle, oder wenigsten ein Seitenteil ohne Sperre! Wenn man sie zum Brandungs- oder Spinnfischen verwenden möchte!

Better: Find the right reel, or at least a side panel without a locking mechanism! Especially if you want to use it for surfcasting or spin fishing!
